H.L. FALARDEAU SCA, FCA, IAF, NEWS

Almost by accident, Louise discovered watercolour painting and drawing at the same time. She is mainly a self-taught artist.

Her sensitive yet powerful paintings describe and tell, in pigments and shapes, passions and emotions. More recognized for rendering portraits and characters, she has no desire to limit herself in her painting themes. She is approaching every subject like a portrait. To her, the environments that people create to live their lives, even in the very most simple moments, say a lot about themselves. A sky, a tree trunk, a flower … each have a personality and transports us in an atmosphere which translates emotions.

Her paintings have been selected to be part of prestigious national and international juried exhibitions such as the ones held by the American Watercolor Society, the Transparent Watercolor Society, Watercolor West, North East Watercolor Society, the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colours and the Federation of Canadian Artists. She also participated in group shows in Europe.

Louise is a signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, of the Canadian Watercolour Society (Société canadienne de l’aquarelle, SCA), of the Institute des Arts Figuratifs and of the North East Watercolor Society (USA).

MUSA BALAN

Musa Balan, Acclaimed Turkish watercolor artist (1962)
His watercolor journey started at the age of 7 with him carrying his watercolor paints in his school bag everyday…

At the age of 17, watercolor was in his caricatures that are published in national comics…

At the age of 19, it was in his illustrations which published in art magazines… At his 20's on the walls in frames...

Later on, in national and international juried exhibitions(U.S., Russia, etc...), biennials, catalogues and encyclopedias... As well as in private collections in many different countries…

The way the paint spreads on the wet paper and creates transparent stains, brings indescribable excitements to Musa. Water and paint are his indispensables...

He is known through the backlight skills he has shown in his cityscape and landscape paintings. Sunlight and the tall blue shadows it creates, are the main characteristics of his artworks. By painting daily frames, Musa makes the viewer see through his eyes...

KEITH HORNBLOWER

Keith has a love of buildings born from an earlier career in architecture and more recently in architectural illustration, with watercolour being the medium of choice for reasons of speed and convenience. He is entirely self-taught, both as an illustrator and artist.

But his paintings are quite separate from his illustration work. Although they share the same medium, with the former he is free to explore the medium to its limits without the constraints of a client’s wants and needs.
His approach is dynamic, applying paint at speed, moving and adjusting washes as he progresses. He uses colours for dramatic effect rather than trying to reproduce them literally, thinking mainly in terms of warm and cool, and often working with a simple triad of primary or secondary colours to achieve a full range of tonal values.

Watercolour is a medium of endless possibilities and he plays with it constantly, exploring different ways of applying and removing paint.

He is a Fellow of the Society of Architectural Illustration, exhibit locally and in London and demonstrating the art of watercolour to Art Societies and Universities in the UK. He is a demonstrator for Winsor & Newton.

He was invited to judge for the International Watercolour Society 2013 competition and his painting “La Sagrada Familia” was accepted into the Shenzhen Watercolour International Biennial, China.

FRANCINE BOUCHARD SCA

Recognized as professional painter by the Académie internationale des
Beaux-Arts (Québec), Francine Bouchard was also elected Signature Member
with the Société Canadienne de l’Aquarelle in 2012. Her style is very
personal and Francine Bouchard delighted audiences with her watercolour
paintings in many art exhibitions and symposiums. She won awards and honors, jury awards, people’s Choice Awards,  including First Prize, section
"Guests ", at the Société Canadienne annual juried 2012 Salon.

‘’I consider my favorite subjects with a very intuitive, spontaneous and personal brush ...  landscapes, animals, people, and urban scenes ... I like to break from routine and paint with my inspiration as a guide. All my paintings must generate an emotion.   An emotion that takes its full meaning in the eyes of the beholder . I want to capture an absolute luminosity , paint the essence of the subject to reach the maximum impact...  Finally, nothing is taken for granted, many things must be.

As soon as my main subject is elaborated and without unnecessary detail, the creative process begins. I like to take risks and I struggle against my impulsiveness, some shapes are found, others are forgotten and the whole process confirms my intuition.

The composition and the light gradually progress. At this point, the composition reflects the poetry which lives in me. This personal and nontraditional techniques and approach gives my work an atmosphere on the edge of the unreal.''

KEIKO TANABE NWS

As a child growing up in Japan, Keiko always enjoyed drawing and painting and won many awards in children's art contests.  However, art was not her chosen field of study later on.  She earned a B.A. in intercultural communication (International Christian University, Tokyo, Japan) and an M.A. in international education (UCLA, California).  She then worked in international relations positions in Japan and in the U.S.A.  In the last 25 years, she has traveled extensively, mainly in European countries, Asia and North America for both business and pleasure.

Through all these years, Keiko knew there was in her heart the growing desire to someday become an artist.  That, fueled by her love of travel and strong interest in other cultures, eventually found its way out in 2003.  While still working in international business, she started drawing again.  In 2005, after learning basic drawing and watercolor painting skills at a local community school in San Diego, California, she decided to paint full-time.  From then on, she intensely taught herself to be fluent in watercolor painting, just as one would do to master a foreign language.

Since then her paintings have been juried into many exhibitions across America and in Asia and Europe.  Her work has been purchased by private and corporate collectors from all around the world.  She also had her paintings published in leading art magazines in the U.S. and Europe.  To date, she has self-published five books of her art, with a new one coming out in June 2014.

Keiko currently lives in San Diego, California.  She's also a sought-after workshop instructor and a juror.  Since 2011, she has completed successfully more than 50 workshops around the world.

Keiko is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society (USA), a member of the American Watercolor Society (USA), a founding member of the North American Watercolor Artists (USA), and a member of the Japan Watercolor Society (Japan).

MURIEL BUTHIER -CHARTRAIN

Born in France in 1961, I paint since 1981, mainly in watercolor, some landscapes barely suggested, sometimes abstract and in large size. The subject is just an excuse to work on light and to express my feelings.

I suggest atmosphere and emotions by focusing me on the
essential expression. The execution comes after a long mental preparation.

My way of working does not leave me time to think about when I put the color : at this point, I no longer think to technic, even if it is there, underlying and essential. I act by instinct, which allows me to concentrate on what I want to express. Transparent and light, watercolor can being strong…

Since 1984, I exhibited in national, international and solo exhibitions in France, Sweden and
Belgium where my work has often been awarded.

Prize of the jury in International Biennial of watercolor of Belgium 2011
Juror for the International contests (2012 & 2014) of international Watercolor Society (IWS)

DAVID PARFITT RI

David is a landscape painter from the UK, working with Watercolours and water-based media.  He was elected a member of the prestigious Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours (RI) in 2011, winning awards at the 2012 and 2014 RI exhibitions.

He has exhibited widely and taken part in many selected, group and solo exhibitions.

David is passionate about watercolour, with its fluidity and uncontrollable nature and each time he begins a new painting he asks himself: ‘how can I use this medium to convey a feeling for the moods and atmosphere of the landscape in front of me’.

David creates representational paintings which do not look contrived or deliberate, while keeping a fairly abstract feel to both the marks and the composition.  Painting many of his works en-plein-air helps with this process because it involves working quickly and fairly simply.  To reproduce the feeling of painting in the open air, David uses exactly the same materials and methods when he is painting in the studio.

David’s whole approach is about experimenting, learning and developing as a painter with the idea to consistently push the water-based medium as far as he can.

SELECTED ARTISTS / ACCEPTED PAINTINGS
Shipping of accepted paintings
The selected artworks can be shipped to:
 Watercolor International II
c/o George Politis
6 Stamatopoulou Str
GR 54642 Thessaloniki, Greece

FRAMED OR UNFRAMED…
In order to facilitate the shipping and reduce the costs for participants, the following service / option is offered.

Unframed paintings:
An artist may send the accepted paintings unframed. In that case a framing service fee of 30 euros (independent of number of paintings) must be paid. This fee doesn’t cover the actual frame, so if a painting is sold, the frame cost (50 euros) will be deducted. For instance, if a painting is sold at 1000 euros, then the artist will receive 750 euros (commission 20% + 50 euros  for the frame).

Framed paintings:
If an artist sends the paintings framed, no additional fee is required.
