David is a
landscape painter from the UK, working with Watercolours and water-based
media. He was elected a member of the
prestigious Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours (RI) in 2011, winning
awards at the 2012 and 2014 RI exhibitions.
He has
exhibited widely and taken part in many selected, group and solo exhibitions.
David is
passionate about watercolour, with its fluidity and uncontrollable nature and
each time he begins a new painting he asks himself: ‘how can I use this medium
to convey a feeling for the moods and atmosphere of the landscape in front of
me’.
David
creates representational paintings which do not look contrived or deliberate,
while keeping a fairly abstract feel to both the marks and the
composition. Painting many of his works
en-plein-air helps with this process because it involves working quickly and
fairly simply. To reproduce the feeling
of painting in the open air, David uses exactly the same materials and methods
when he is painting in the studio.
David’s whole
approach is about experimenting, learning and developing as a painter with the
idea to consistently push the water-based medium as far as he can.
Big clouds, watercolour, 37x42cm
