Lim Bee Tat
was born in Malaysia. In 1996, he began
a series of watercolor paintings themed "Fishing Village". However, he felt that the work failed to
illustrate the feelings he wanted to express.
In the search for inspiration, he decided to fully immerse himself in
the beauty of Chinese classical music.
He tried to seek for ways to extract his innermost feelings and express
these diverse emotions through music. He
hoped that these skills and emotions could be applied to his paintings.
About a
decade, he played the two-stringed Chinese fiddle, Erhu, and with it set up his
own unique painting style. In his
paintings, he tried to use different color tones to express different moods, it
was as if by using different tones would capture the audience's
sentiments. He used exquisite brushwork
to outline the scenery, occasionally also uses the color spilled method to tell
the story behind the paintings. He has
learnt to be good at using appropriate space to let a person have more thinking
room.
Recently,
Lim has adopted dripping technique to illustrate his old days memories, his
artwork are awaiting to be freely interpreted.
